The Keep Oconee County Beautiful Commission will host the Keep Georgia Beautiful’s “Bring One for the Chipper” program on Jan. 5 at Harris Shoals Park on Experiment Station Road, Watkinsville.
The statewide program has been observed for more than 20 years. Local residents are encouraged to bring Christmas trees to the park for recycling. In exchange, residents will receive a free red maple, white oak or dogwood seedling donated by the Oconee Lions Club.
The free mulch, chipped courtesy of Georgia Power, will be available to Oconee County residents beginning Jan. 11 at the park.
People should bring trees by the park on Jan. 5 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to receive a free seedling, but beginning Dec. 26, residents can drop off trees at the park or at Oconee County recycling collection sites until Jan. 18.
