The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office reported the following incidents:
DUI: On Dec. 19, Deputy Fredy Wagoner was on patrol when he stopped for a red light at Georgia Highway 316 and Jimmy Daniel Road. He saw a vehicle approaching and the unit’s radar showed it was traveling at 90 mph.
Wagoner stopped the car and the driver and passenger both admitted they had been drinking. However, they were both using profanities as they were questioned. The driver also refused to do a field sobriety test.
Kevin Troy Carden, 21, of Lakeside Drive, Athens, was charged with DUI, speeding, having a suspended license plate and not having his license.
SHOPLIFTING: on Dec. 18, security at Lowe’s on Epps Bridge Parkway detained a man after he tried to leave with three pairs of lineman pliers valued at $45 each. Kenneth Ray Jordan, 41, of Wages Bridge Road, Nicholson, was charged with shoplifting.
BURGLARY: On Dec. 21, a resident of Natalie Court reported she left home about 6:50 a.m. and upon returning at 4 p.m. she found the blinds up on her kitchen window and the window open. She went inside and found where someone had entered her home and stole a laptop, three silver necklaces and a digital camera.
METH FOUND: On Dec. 22, deputies stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on Georgia Highway 441 and Lampkin Branch Road, where a search of the vehicle revealed some methamphetamine.
Jamie Parker, 27, of Bishop and Talmadge Buffington, 21, of Watkinsville were both charged with possessing the illegal drug. Both denied ownership of the drug, deputies said.
FIGHT: On Dec. 23, deputies were dispatched about 1:25 a.m. to Walmart where shoppers reported a fight between four women in the parking lot. When deputies arrived, the women had already left. One witness said the SUV driven by one the suspects almost ran over a young girl in a wheelchair. This girl had also left the scene.
BURGLARY: On Dec. 23, a resident of Dove Creek Road, Winder, reported someone entered his home between 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and stole numerous items, all valued at $645.
SCOOTER STOLEN: On Dec. 24, a deputy was dispatched to a home at Pinewood Mobile Park off Old Epps Bridge Road, where a man said he parked his red Yamaha scooter in a storage shed the previous day and this morning he found it was gone. The scooter has an expired Texas license plate.
DAMAGE: On Dec. 26, a deputy was dispatched to McDonalds at Butler’s Crossing on Experiment Station Road, where someone entered the women’s restroom and tried to remove the toilet collars, rings and pipes. A customer found the leaking pipes and notified employees.
GPS STOLEN: On Dec. 23, a man reported he parked his tractor-trailer rig on Monroe Highway, Bogart, the previous night and this morning he found someone had broken out a window and stole the GPS unit, along with a phone holder and GPS adapter, all valued at $425.
